George Brown, Jr.

On May 9, 1973, the former United States Marine Corps veteran and current associate minister George Brown, Jr. was elected to be the 2nd pastor of the Mt. Tabor Community Missionary Baptist Church of Los Angeles, California.

Pastor Brown, being honorably discharged as a Sargent after spending four years in the United States Marine Corps return to the Los Angeles area where he grew up attending Mt. Tabor. He has been a member of Mt. Tabor since it was established in 1956.

Pastor Brown was elected to be the pastor on May 9th, 1973, after the death of Mt. Tabor’s founder A.R. Richardson

Pastor Brown, working to continue with the vision of the founder, led the congregation in the construction of a new sanctuary that started in October 2007 and was completed in February 2011.

Pastor Brown has held several elected and appointed positions within the Los Angeles District Association (LADA), whom his has been affiliated with since 1974. Pastor Brown has functioned as the 3rd Vice Moderator, President of Pastor’s/Minister’s Conference, and Counsel of the Usher/First Aiders Department.

Pastor Brown served on the Board of Directors of the South Central/Weingart YMCA for over 20 years where he held various executive board positions. In his rolls within the YMCA he has supported various auxiliaries that have provided support to the under served communities throughout Los Angeles county.

Pastor Brown is committed to teaching and spreading the word of the God. He began preaching in 1964 while stationed at United States Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.  He continues to serve as shepherd to his flock and his deep southern roots are displayed through his kindness towards others; Born to the late Rev. George L. Brown, Sr. and the late Willie-Mae Brown in Alabama.

Pastor Brown attended the Providence Theological Seminary (an extension program of the American Baptist College of Nashville, TN).

Pastor Brown and his wife Nancy Brown, residents of Los Angeles, California were married in 1996. Pastor Brown has four children from the union with his late wife, Ethel Brown, who passed away in 1985. First Lady Nancy Brown is the mother of two daughters.
